Where to Stay in Hoi An: Ancient Town, An Bang Beach or Da Nang?
Where to Stay in Hoi An: Ancient Town, An Bang Beach or Da Nang?
Planning a trip to Central Vietnam and wondering where to stay in Hoi An?
Should you stay near Hoi An Ancient Town, relax at An Bang Beach, or stay in Da Nang and visit Hoi An as a day trip?
As a local team based in Hoi An, here’s our simple guide.
Hoi An Ancient Town – Best for First-Time Visitors
For your first visit, staying near Hoi An Ancient Town is usually the easiest choice.
You’ll be close to restaurants, cafés, markets, tailor shops, lantern streets and the night market. In the evening, you can simply walk into town without worrying about transport.

Best for: first-time visitors, couples, food lovers, shopping and evening atmosphere.
Local tip: You don’t need to stay right inside the busiest part of the Old Town. Areas just outside the centre can be quieter while still being within easy walking or cycling distance.
An Bang Beach – Best for Relaxing
If you prefer a slower holiday, An Bang Beach is a lovely option.
There are plenty of restaurants, cafés and beach bars nearby, while Hoi An Ancient Town is only a short drive away.
Best for: beach lovers, couples, longer stays and travellers looking for a relaxed atmosphere.
Local tip: If you’re already spending several days in Phu Quoc or another beach destination, consider staying closer to Hoi An Ancient Town for a different experience.
Da Nang – Best for Beach & City Life
Choose Da Nang if you prefer modern hotels, beach resorts, rooftop bars, restaurants and city life.
The My Khe Beach area is popular with visitors and is also convenient for exploring Marble Mountains, Son Tra Peninsula and Ba Na Hills.

Hoi An is close enough for a day trip, but staying overnight in Hoi An lets you experience the Ancient Town after sunset when the lanterns come on.
Should You Split Your Stay?
If you only have 2–3 nights, choose either Hoi An or Da Nang rather than changing hotels.
If you have 4–6 nights, splitting your stay can work well:
2–3 nights Da Nang + 2–3 nights Hoi An
Or simply use Hoi An as your base and visit Da Nang on a day trip.
How Long Should You Stay in Hoi An?
For most first-time visitors, 3 nights in Hoi An is a good starting point.
You’ll have time for the Ancient Town, local food, An Bang Beach and perhaps a day trip to My Son Sanctuary, Marble Mountains or Da Nang.
If you enjoy slow travel, 4–5 nights is definitely not too long.
